Authorities in the Russian city of Kazan reported that a number of drones carrying explosives attacked residential buildings on Saturday morning, causing fires. Three kamikaze drones reportedly targeted the city’s high-rise residential buildings. Video footage of the impact moment and the attack’s aftermath has been posted by witnesses.
As soon as emergency personnel reached the area, the TASS news agency verified that inhabitants were being evacuated from the damaged buildings. Thankfully, there haven’t been any recorded casualties yet.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Defence Ministry announced on its Telegram channel that a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) had been intercepted by its air defences over the Republic of Tatarstan, which is Kazan’s home region. The management of the city later confirmed this remark.
Ukrainian drones have been detected numerous times in Moscow and other parts of Russia since the start of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine in February 2022. Only a small number of UAVs have, nevertheless, been able to effectively reach their targets.
