Viduthalai 2 X: Fans Go Wild Over Vijay Sethupathi’s Performance, National Award Speculation Rises

On December 20, Vijay Sethupathi’s Viduthalai Part 2 was released in cinemas. Vetri Maaran’s Tamil period crime thriller is a follow-up to Viduthalai Part 1, which came out in 2023. Fans have given the film varying reviews, calling it Vetri Maaran’s “cult classic.”

The film explores the violent conflict between a police officer and a separatist group leader in greater detail, continuing the two-part adaptation of Jeyamohan’s short story Thunaivan. Manju Warrier, Kishore, and Anurag Kashyap join the ensemble for the sequel, while Soori, Vijay Sethupathi, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Bhavani Sre, and Rajiv Menon reprise their roles in the star-studded cast.

Fans and admirers who were eager to see Vijay Sethupathi return to the big screen have given his film overwhelmingly positive reviews. Some were enthralled with the actor’s potent action scenes, while others were pleased by the “banger screenplay.”

One of the X users wrote, “Viduthalai part 2 with the banger screenplay, political satire movie, positive reviews for Vetri – VJS – Soori combo (sic),” while another wrote, “A VETRIMARAN ‘S CULT CLASSIC Film. Witnessed #VijaySethupathi ‘s Another Shade in #Viduthalai2, What a PERFORMER… He is #VetriMaaran climax peak (sic).” A third user chimed in and wrote, “A VETRIMARAN ‘S CULT CLASSIC Film…Witnessed #VijaySethupathi ‘s Another Shade in #Viduthalai2, What a PERFORMER… He is the Next National Award Loading for this Man #VetriMaaran Can’t Disclose too much, Will everyone know it morning (sic).”

One of the users was shocked by the film and expressed what did not work for him. “#Viduthalai2 #ViduthalaiPart2 A weakly written & directed work that’s overlong & mostly uses montage-like storytelling. Functions more as a politics class than a narrative film. One of the blandest films of the year. A colossal waste of talent, time & resources (sic).”

Following the success of Maharaja, Sethupathi’s most recent film, Viduthalai Part 2, was released in theatres on December 20. The suspenseful story, which is set in 1987 and centres on a catastrophic train crash connected to a suspected extreme political leader, is expected to continue in Viduthalai Part 2, the follow-up to the 2023 blockbuster Viduthalai Part 1.
