Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the Women’s Freestyle 50kg final at the Olympics in Paris, and on Wednesday she filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
According to reports, Vinesh filed an appeal to be allowed to compete in the gold medal match again, but she has now requested to be given a joint silver medal.
During the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Court of Arbitration for Sport will have two temporary offices in Paris. The CAS Ad Hoc Division is among them.
Its job is to settle any legal issues that come up while the Games are going on. Since 1996, this interim tribunal has presided over all Summer and Winter Games competitions as well as other significant athletic events.
According to an official media release, “The CAS Ad hoc Division guarantees free access to high quality dispute resolution services conducted within a timeframe consistent with the competition schedule as decisions can be rendered within 24 hours in urgent matters.”
Its office, which is housed in the 17th arrondissement of Paris within the Paris judicial court, will remain open until August 11.
Within twenty-four hours of the application being submitted, the ad hoc panel will make a determination. In extraordinary situations, the President of the Ad Hoc Division may decide to extend this deadline if necessary.
