Violence Erupts at Golden Temple in Amritsar, 5 Devotees Injured in Attack

Five worshippers were hurt in an alleged attack on the grounds of Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab, on Friday by an unidentified individual brandishing a rod.

One Sikh youth from Bathinda is allegedly in critical condition and is receiving treatment at the Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Amritsar, in the emergency wing.

The accused, who has not yet been identified, and his assistant, who went with him to the Golden Temple, have been taken into custody by the police. “The second accused allegedly conducted recce along with the one who attacked devotees,” said a police officer.

According to the authorities, the incident happened inside the oldest Guru Ram Das inn, which is next to the communal kitchen. The accused suddenly began hitting the devotees with a rod, according to the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), which oversees the Sikh house of worship.
