In the final One-Day International against Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram, Virat Kohli continued his incredible form by scoring another century.
In the series finale against Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram, Virat Kohli put on a display by scoring his 46th ODI century. He now has 21 home ODI hundreds, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s previous record of 20.
The century also brings him three centuries short of Sachin’s record for most ODI centuries, which stands at 49.
Kohli reached his century in 85 balls but then changed his strategy, scoring 166* off 110 deliveries. Currently, this is his second-best ODI cricket score, and highest at home. The most sixes he has ever hit in an ODI innings were eight maximums and 13 fours in his spectacular effort.
No records were spared on that day as Virat Kohli overtook Mahela Jayawardene on the list of all-time ODI run scorers over the course of his innings. With 12754 runs, he is currently only behind Sanath Jayasuriya (13430), Ricky Ponting (13704), Kumar Sangakkara (14234) and Sachin Tendulkar (18426).
When India won the toss earlier in the day, they decided to bat first. When Rohit Sharma left, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli used a century stand to launch an offensive against the opposition after the openers provided India the ideal start. As India set Sri Lanka a lofty mark of 391, Gill reached his second ODI century (116 off 97 balls), and Kohli put the finishing touches on the victory.
In retaliation, Sri Lanka was dismissed for just 73 runs, with Mohammed Siraj taking four wickets to lead the way. India’s victory margin of 317 runs was the largest in men’s ODI cricket history.
