Amid the high pressure and with suggestions round the world to impose national lockdown the Centre on Wednesday said that several discussions are going on in the matter. Although the Centre has not released any official announcement on imposing national lockdown as of now.
The Niti Aayog member and the head of national Covid-19 task force, VK Paul had on Wednesday said that the option of imposing nationwide lockdown is being discussed. The task force had earlier urged the Centre to impose lockdown.
“There is a clear balanced advisory and at the same time, in addition to this range of restrictions, if anything more is required, those options are always being discussed and those decisions, as being required, will be taken,” said VK Paul addressing a press conference.
However, the Health Ministry has denied on any possibility of lockdown. But majority feels that the lockdown is the only key to fight this crippling pandemic.
The states and UTs having 60 per cent occupandy of their ICU beds and have a positivity rate of over 10 per cent have been asked to impose night curfews and all necessary restrictions, said VK Paul.
The officials who have adviced Prime Minister Narendra Modi to impose lockdown include AIIMS chief Dr Randeep Gulera, many top political leaders and also some international health experts.
A few days back the American top health expert Dr Anthony Fauci had said that if would be at PM Modi’s place he would have imposed the national lockdown as imposing lockdown for few weeks is far better than locking the country for six months, he said adding imposing nationwide lockdown is the only key to overcome the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the country.
According to the data by the health ministry, India on Thursday recorded a daily high spike of 4,12,262 fresh cases and 3,980 deaths, taking the caseload to 2,10,77,410. The total country’s fatalities stands at 2,30,168.
